Benfica is reportedly the primary international club interested in Wolfsburg's 21-year-old German-Montenegrin forward, Dzenan Pejcinovic, with a strong approach from the Portuguese club. Pejcinovic performed very well for Wolfsburg despite their relegation to Bundesliga 2. The player himself wishes to remain in German football, where Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt have also demonstrated interest. Wolfsburg intend to keep their top scorer to aid their promotion efforts, with sporting director Dieter Hecking confirming this desire and stating that only an exceptional proposal of over €20 million would persuade the club to sell. Pejcinovic, who has been capped for Germany at U21 level, has a contract with Wolfsburg until June 2029 and a current Transfermarkt market value of €15.00m.
