The two worked together when Ronan was on loan at St Mirren from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 2021/22 season. Aberdeen had previously shown interest in keeping Ronan in the Premiership after his time with St Mirren, but he chose to make a permanent move to the MLS. Aberdeen will now need to negotiate a deal with Colorado Rapids for the 28-year-old, who is also known to Aberdeen's sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, from his time in the MLS with St Louis City.
