Alan Browne is spending the season on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship after Sunderland sanctioned the temporary exit in the summer following an influx of new players. The midfielder was aware that his opportunities in the Premier League would be limited on Wearside, and Middlesbrough were attracted to his quality and experience. It is not yet clear whether Middlesbrough will look to make the deal permanent. Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has stated that the clubs have not yet discussed Browne's longer-term future. The 30-year-old still has 18 months to run on the Sunderland deal he signed in the summer of 2024. Browne has previously admitted he was disappointed not to be given a chance in the Premier League but understood the club's approach after their summer recruitment.
