Premier League club Sunderland made inquiries about the possibility of signing Geny Catamo, a 25-year-old winger from Mozambique. The inquiry remained informal, and no formal offer was submitted to Sporting CP, even though Sunderland had been monitoring him for months and had recently considered making a formal proposal. Sporting responded immediately, stating they are not willing to negotiate the departure of a player they consider essential for the new season. The club will only consider offers for amounts close to his release clause, which is set at €60 million.
Catamo has also received interest from other clubs, as clubs from England, Saudi Arabia, and Italy have made approaches in recent weeks and received the same response from the Portuguese club. The Mozambique international has 42 caps and 15 goals for his country and is under contract with Sporting until June 2028. His current market value is €25 million, according to Transfermarkt. Aston Villa has also been recently linked with the player.
