Go Ahead Eagles director Jan Willem van Dop revealed that 27-year-old Icelandic midfielder Willum Thor Willumsson was offered to the club during negotiations for Milan Smit's 5.5 million euro transfer to Stoke City. Van Dop stated to RTV Oost that there was no place for the player in Deventer. Following this, NEC is now interested in signing the midfielder from Birmingham City, where his prospects are considered to be uncertain. Go Ahead Eagles had previously sold Willumsson to the English club in the summer of 2024 for a fee of four million euros. His contract with Birmingham City is valid until June 30, 2028.
