The contract is short-term until June, and includes an option to extend until the summer of 2026 based on his performances this season. According to ESPN, Ajax will include an option for an additional season in the short-term performance-based contract of Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Japanese defender will sign for half a year and his salary will be dependent on his playing minutes. In the short term, Tomiyasu, who is a free agent, will undergo a medical examination at Ajax. If he passes it, he will sign the short-term performance-based contract. Reasons mentioned for this contract structure are that Tomiyasu has struggled with significant injuries for a long time, and that the new technical director of Ajax, who has yet to be appointed, did not have input on the deal.

Alex Kroes is focusing on realizing the deal for Tomiyasu and, alongside financial director Shashi Baboeram Panday, on the contractual details. While officially Kroes is still responsible for the technical policy and the winter transfer window, he no longer involves himself in assessing whether a player like Tomiyasu is an asset for Ajax.
