Nacho Fernández Transfer from River Plate to Gimnasia La Plata

Nacho Fernández's contract with River will end at the end of the year. He is in advanced talks to return to the club where he started his career. According to TyC Sports, he has informed his close circle about the real possibility of his return. The talks are progressing well, and if no issues arise, the midfielder will play for the team known as Lobo again. River will not oppose his departure.

TYC reports that Nacho Fernández could potentially return to Gimnasia. The 35-year-old will finish his contract with River at the end of this year and will not continue with the club. Carlos Anacleto, a candidate of the Usina Tripera group, stated that if he wins the elections, he will take concrete steps for Nacho to join Gimnasia next season. The possibility of his return has been a recurring topic but has not previously occurred, and a potential return in mid-2024 did not happen. There is a desire in the city for his return and Gimnasia hopes Nacho will come back. River is not expected to present any obstacles for his exit.

According to TYC, it is highly likely that a player will return to Lobo (Gimnasia) after the end of 2025.

Nacho Fernández has chosen to remain with River Plate, even though Gimnasia showed interest in bringing him back. River Plate's coach, Marcelo Gallardo, is contemplating using him as a replacement for Lanzini. Since October 2024, Nacho has not been a regular in the starting lineup. The 35-year-old midfielder is considered a possible solution to River's current offensive issues, despite having played only 26 minutes this season. His choice to stay at River comes in spite of his recent inconsistent form, as Gallardo appreciates his experience and the potential impact he could have on the team's creative play.
