Matías Viña Transfer from Flamengo to River Plate

River Plate has announced the signing of Matías Viña from Flamengo. Matías Viña joins River Plate on a loan contract valid until December 2026, with a purchase option for River Plate that can become an obligation upon achieving certain sporting objectives. The signing took place in San Martín de los Andes in the presence of president Stefano Di Carlo. Viña suffered a serious injury in mid-2024 which prevented him from playing for most of the 2025 season, limiting him to ten appearances.

Flamengo has agreed to loan left-back Matías Viña to River Plate of Argentina. According to ESPN, the loan will be for one season with a purchase obligation of 5 million dollars, which is triggered if the left-back plays in 50% of the games for the Argentine club. River Plate will pay around 500 thousand dollars to Flamengo for the loan. The Uruguayan will soon travel to undergo medical examinations and report to the new club.

ESPN reported that River Plate will sign Matías Viña on loan from Flamengo, with the deal including an obligation to buy if certain performance targets are met. The exact value for a permanent transfer is still being finalized by River Plate and Flamengo. The ESPN report also mentioned that Besiktas was interested in signing Viña, but the player preferred the Argentine club, a preference influenced by his desire to remain in South America.

According to ESPN, Matias Vina and River Plate have mostly agreed.

A report from journalist Ekrem Konur on the social network X states that Matías Viña is transferring to River Plate. The report also indicates the Argentine club will announce the transfer within two to three days.

According to ESPN, Matías Viña gives preference to River Plate in the negotiation for his departure from Flamengo. The source also reported that River Plate is targeting the Uruguayan player. Negotiations for Viña's move to Argentina are ongoing, and there is optimism among the parties for a positive outcome. Matías Viña is aware he will not have space at Flamengo due to competition for his position and has received approval from José Boto to leave the club. Viña, who was rarely used in 2025 and spent much time injured, is now fully fit and could be used immediately by Marcelo Gallardo if acquired by River Plate.

River Plate has identified Matías Viña as a new target and has initiated contact with Flamengo after previous negotiations for a left-back were not successful. The Argentine club's proposal for the 28-year-old Uruguayan defender is a one-year loan with an option to buy. The club views him as an experienced player who can strengthen a priority area. It is reported that Viña is interested in a move to find a more central role and consistent playing time. He has made only 10 appearances in 2025 for Flamengo, where he is behind Alex Sandro and Ayrton Lucas. Flamengo's management is cautious and does not appear willing to facilitate Viña's departure, even though he is not considered a key player. Viña has 43 caps for Uruguay. He joined Flamengo in January 2024 and his contract runs until the end of 2028. Spartak Moskva has also shown interest. In December 2025, it was reported that the Russian club had two offers of €3 million and €4 million rejected. Flamengo's asking price was said to be €6 million. Flamengo originally signed Viña from AS Roma for a fee of €8.1 million.
