Globo.com reports that Al-Ahli ended negotiations with Botafogo at the end of the window and informed Matheus Gonçalves that the club did not intend to release him. Matheus Gonçalves wanted to return to Brazilian football and viewed the opportunities that arose favorably. The player now hopes that new talks about a return to Brazilian football will take place in the next transfer window, and Al-Ahli is open to discussing a possible departure for him again at the end of the year.

Al-Ahli decided not to negotiate for 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder Matheus Gonçalves in this transfer window, rejecting proposals from both Botafogo and Vasco that were presented by the player's agents. Gonçalves joined Al-Ahli in September 2025 for a reported €9.0 million and his contract runs until June 2027. He has been capped once by the Brazil U20 national team and his current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €9.00m.
