Uruguayan midfielder Martín Barrios, 27, is set to return to Racing Club in January when his loan at Platense concludes in December. The club from Vicente López lacks a purchase option, so Barrios will have to go back to Avellaneda. His original transfer to Racing was in July 2024 from Liverpool of Uruguay, in a deal valued at $2.5 million for 80 percent of his economic rights. In his first year and a half with the club, he played 37 matches but was a starter in only eight. He joined Platense at the beginning of the current year, where he played 32 games and became a regular starter. The player's continuation at the institution presided over by Diego Milito will depend on the evaluation of the future coach and whether he is included in their plans. His contract with Racing Club expires on December 31, 2027. The central midfielder has 21 caps and 2 goals for the Uruguay U20 national team, and his current market value is €750.0K, according to Transfermarkt.
