Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, have held discussions over Lucas Herrington as part of their evaluation of young defensive players, but there is extensive competition for the 18-year-old Colorado Rapids centre-back. The Australian international, who has 6 caps for his country, gained widespread attention following his performances at the World Cup. Manchester City’s parent company, City Football Group, has also held talks, while Barcelona is another club to have registered its interest. The competition for Herrington also includes other Premier League teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United, in addition to clubs in Germany and France. Colorado Rapids are open to selling the defender but would also be receptive to an arrangement that allows Herrington to remain with the MLS club on loan for another year. In the 2025/2026 Major League Soccer season, Herrington made 15 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He was acquired by Colorado Rapids from Brisbane Roar in January 2026 for a reported €450,000 and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €4.50m. In June 2026, it was reported that Colorado Rapids rejected an initial €10 million bid from FC Barcelona.
