According to Bild, Dynamo Dresden has signed Kenneth Schmidt despite his current injury. Kenneth Schmidt (23) sustained a cruciate ligament rupture in February during training in Düsseldorf. Sport director Sören Gonther explained that without the injury, Kenneth would not have been attainable for them. He said they seized this opportunity because he has incredible potential that will not be gone after a cruciate ligament rupture. Kenneth Schmidt said that the club indicated early on that they wanted to work with him and would provide full support in his rehabilitation process.

Dynamo Dresden has announced the transfer of Kenneth Schmidt from Fortuna Düsseldorf. No information regarding the contract duration was provided by the club. The 24-year-old central defender has a cruciate ligament injury and will be out for several months. Sören Gonther, the Managing Director Sport, stated that Kenneth Schmidt possesses very good speed and technically skilled build-up play, and that he had previously made appearances in the Bundesliga with Freiburg. Gonther also stated that the club will have patience with him after his knee injury, will accompany him through the final stage of his rehabilitation, and will gradually integrate him into team training. The club had wanted him to be part of the squad from the start of preparation.

According to Bild, Dynamo Dresden is expected to sign two players from relegated second-division clubs. One of them is Kenneth Schmidt, a 24-year-old German-Nigerian centre-back from Fortuna Düsseldorf. Schmidt joined Fortuna Düsseldorf in July 2025 and made 20 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga during the 2025/2026 season, scoring one goal. A former Germany U21 international, he has four caps. His contract with Fortuna is until 2028. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €800k.
