Midfielder Josh Stokes has joined Reading on a season-long loan from Championship side Bristol City.

According to various reports, Josh Stokes is poised to join Reading on a permanent deal. Stockport County reporter Sam Byrne stated the attacking midfielder is poised to join the Royals, a claim that The Reading Chronicle has also reported. Stokes has had multiple impressive loan spells in League One and now appears prepared to move to Reading on a permanent basis.

Josh Stokes of Bristol City is reportedly a potential transfer target for Reading following a successful loan spell in League One with Stockport County, where he was involved in their promotion effort. The 22-year-old English attacking midfielder, who can also play on either wing, has two years remaining on his contract with the Robins, so a fee would be necessary to sign him. Stokes, who signed for his parent club in 2024 from Aldershot Town, has also previously been on loan at Cambridge United. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €400k.
