ESPN reports that Newcastle United have renewed their interest in 18-year-old Grêmio forward Gabriel Mec after talks over a contract extension stalled. Due to fears of losing him for no fee, the Brazilian side is ready to demand approximately $23 million (£17 million).

Chelsea have renewed their interest in Gabriel Mec, a 17-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper for Gremio. It was reported that Chelsea were very close to signing the player in 2024 before withdrawing from the deal. It is also reported that Gremio is now asking for a fee between €15-20m for the player, and that both Chelsea and Newcastle United are interested. Mec has just over 12 months remaining on his contract. While Gremio would like to secure an extension, they might permit a sale this summer to avoid losing him on a Bosman transfer in 2027. Mec has been capped once by Brazil at the U17 level. In March 2026, it was reported that Shakhtar Donetsk made a bid of €16 million, which Grêmio countered with an asking price of €20 million.
