Slovenian and Hungarian media reported that 26-year-old Croatian striker Franko Kovačević was close to joining Ujpest for a potential club-record fee of three million euros sought by Celje. City rivals Ferencváros have also become interested in the Croatian striker and are described as a stronger and wealthier club. Kovačević has 11 goals and 2 assists in 14 Prva Liga appearances this season and is under contract with Celje until June 2028.
