The report also stated that confirmation would not be provided in the near future because the player requested to be focused on the Uruguayan National Team. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, these claims have been denied by individuals close to the striker. Romano stated that his information indicates that those close to Darwin's camp deny this information. Romano also stated that the expectation is for Darwin to sign with a new club this summer, but that currently there is nothing in an advanced stage with Liverpool.

Uruguayan journalist Martin Charquero has claimed that Darwin Nunez's return to Liverpool is finalized.
