AZ Alkmaar showed strong interest in Christian Witzig, but the transfer did not happen because they were unwilling to meet the requested transfer fee. Christian Witzig stated that this was not so great, explaining that he had thought for a month that the transfer could go through and had prepared mentally and physically, only for it to not happen.

The transfer of Christian Witzig to AZ Alkmaar was not completed because the two clubs could not agree on a transfer fee. According to FCSG coach Enrico Maassen, a departure for Witzig is still a possibility as long as the transfer window is open.

The transfer of Christian Witzig from St. Gallen to AZ Alkmaar has failed, and according to Blick, the two clubs could not agree on the transfer fee.

Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar have a specific interest in signing 25-year-old Swiss versatile player Christian Witzig. The deal is not yet complete, and a potential transfer could be influenced by FCSG's upcoming Conference League qualifier against Nordsjaelland. Although FCSG is not expected to prevent a transfer for Witzig, who has a contract until 2029, Roger Stilz will require a fee for the homegrown player's departure. The transfer fee for Witzig, who will turn 26 in January, is expected to be less than the sum of just over three million that the club received for Isaac Schmidt's transfer almost two years ago. The midfielder, who joined his current club in July 2021, has one cap for the Switzerland national team and a current market value of €3.00m according to Transfermarkt.
