Benjamin Pavard, the 29-year-old French World Cup-winning defender, is set to join Olympique Lyonnais on loan from Inter Mailand. The agreement includes an option for Olympique Lyonnais to make the transfer permanent for 15 million Euro in the summer of 2026. Pavard, who moved to Inter Mailand from FC Bayern München in 2023 for 31 million Euro, was regarded as a crucial player for the team. The French sports daily "L'Équipe" reported that the transfer is seen as "one of the most unlikely summer transfers," underscoring the unexpected nature of Pavard's move. Although his contract with Inter extends until 2028, his market value is assessed at €25 million by Transfermarkt. Other clubs, such as Olympique Marseille and Tottenham Hotspur, were also said to have been interested in Pavard. In the meantime, Inter Mailand has already arranged for a replacement by securing Manuel Akanji on loan from Manchester City, with a purchase obligation dependent on performance and league success.
