Benjamin Arthur Transfer from Brentford to Portsmouth
Portsmouth have signed defender Benjamin Arthur from Premier League side Brentford on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old centre-half, who has been capped by England up to the Under-20 level, spent part of the previous season on loan at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, making six appearances. Arthur, whose contract with Brentford expires in June 2031, has also made three senior appearances for Brentford. Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said that the club was thrilled to bring the player in to strengthen their defense for the season. He added that Arthur has all the attributes expected of a centre-back and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Mousinho also felt that despite his young age, Arthur's experience of top-flight football would make him valuable as the team aims to progress in their third season in the Championship. In August 2026, reports stated Brentford rejected a bid of approximately £7m (around €8m) from Celtic. In July 2026, it was reported that a bid over £11m (around €13m) would be needed to initiate talks. His current Transfermarkt market value is €100k.
