Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert claimed talks are currently taking place over Ben Brereton Diaz leaving before next week's transfer deadline. The 27-year-old is expected to depart by 11pm next Tuesday after being left out of the squad for the two most recent fixtures. Eckert told the Daily Echo that some conversations and negotiations are taking place and that he would expect there to be some news. Brereton Diaz, who was loaned to Sheffield United in January 2025 and spent the last season at Derby County, has been linked with a potential summer return to both clubs. Derby has been most recently and strongly linked to signing him again.

According to SportsBoom, the South Coast club will sell Ben Brereton Diaz for an appropriate price.

Shaun Woodward stated that if Derby County offer £2m or £3m for Ben Brereton Diaz, it is probable that other clubs will be looking to do the same.
