Alan Browne Transfer from Sunderland to Preston North End
According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Alan Browne is in discussions with Sunderland regarding the settlement of his contract. Both Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End were frustrated after attempts to sign the midfielder failed due to his demands. A January transfer could be more straightforward if Browne is released by Sunderland. If that occurs, Browne would be free to find a new club in the January window without reservations over his contract offers. Browne previously captained Preston. Paul Heckingbottom pursued him in the summer, and Preston also has a financial advantage and was closer to signing him. If Preston attempts to sign him, they are in a favorable position to sign Browne in January.

According to Alan Nixon, Preston North End pursued Alan Browne throughout the window, but Sunderland only took action to allow the Republic of Ireland international to leave in the last few days. A return to Preston was not finalized because Browne wanted a three-year deal, according to Alan Nixon. The 31-year-old was offered a two-year deal at Deepdale, but despite the money being at a high level, he wanted a longer contract. Clubs may try to pursue Browne in January, and Preston might be interested in a deal if the player were willing to compromise on a year.

Irish midfielder Alan Browne, aged 31, has one year remaining on his contract and is expected to depart Sunderland permanently. FLW’s Preston Fan Pundit, Darren Watson, believes the former captain would be a good signing for Preston North End again. Watson stated that he would personally seek to bring the player back. Watson also noted that Browne has experience of a promotion and a play-off final and is wanted by several other clubs. The reason for Browne's original departure from Preston was a fallout with former manager Ryan Lowe. During the 2025/2026 season, the midfielder was on loan at Middlesbrough, where he made 38 Championship appearances, scored 4 goals, and provided 3 assists. Browne is a full international for Ireland with 39 caps and 5 goals, and his current Transfermarkt market value is €2.00m. Among the clubs recently linked with him are Derby County and Middlesbrough.
