After 34-year-old Argentinian-Italian defender Agustín García Basso rescinded his contract with Racing following internal conflicts and a broken relationship with the club's management, Independiente contacted the defender about joining them. The player acknowledged that contact had been made and stated he was evaluating several offers with his agent. Despite the approach from Racing's rival, García Basso appears set to continue his career abroad, having reached a verbal agreement to join Universidad Católica de Chile as a free agent. The deal is reportedly for six months with an option to extend for an additional year. While there is no official confirmation yet, the verbal agreement exists, and the final details are expected to be settled soon. In addition to the interest from Independiente, Newell's Old Boys and San Lorenzo have also been recently linked with the player. His last transfer was in January 2024, when Racing Club reportedly paid Independiente del Valle €692,000. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €300k.
