Preston North End are reportedly one of several clubs interested in signing 22-year-old English winger Reyes Cleary from Barnsley in the next transfer market. FLW’s fan pundit Darren Watson suggested that a potential takeover at the club could provide the necessary funds for the transfer. Watson believes Cleary has significant potential and could successfully adapt to the Championship, viewing him as an alternative target if the club cannot sign Lewis Dobbin. Watson considers that signing to be difficult due to Aston Villa's high asking price.

It was previously reported that Barnsley had placed an £8 million valuation on Cleary following interest in the player during the January window. Cleary, who has been capped twice by England U19, has registered 6 goals and 12 assists in 37 League One appearances this season. His contract at Barnsley is due to expire in June 2028 and his current Transfermarkt market value is €150k. The interest in January reportedly saw Barnsley reject multiple bids from Blackburn Rovers valued up to £1.5 million, with reports at the time suggesting their asking price was between £5 million and €6 million.
