Despite rumors linking 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Santiago Homenchenko to various Liga MX teams, his priority is to move to Europe, which would exclude Cruz Azul as a potential destination. Homenchenko, who also holds Ukrainian citizenship, and his club, Querétaro, are not considering the possibility of him continuing his career at another Mexican club. This information follows reports of interest from Cruz Azul, which surfaced after their coach, Joel Huiqui, indicated the possibility of analyzing the signing could be open. After a match against Querétaro, Huiqui commented that Homenchenko is a great player but that the club has a significant amount of time to analyze player searches for the next tournament. Additionally, Querétaro would reportedly ask for a high price for the player, who joined the club in July 2026 and is contracted until June 2029. According to Transfermarkt, Homenchenko is valued at five million euros, a figure that could be an obstacle for any interested club. He has not yet been capped by the Uruguay national team.
