As part of a plan to renew their midfield for the future, Napoli has identified Wolverhampton's 24-year-old Brazilian international João Gomes as a target, and the player is on Giovanni Manna's list. The club had previously sought to sign a new midfielder for Antonio Conte last summer, and the possibility of acquiring Gomes was also considered in January because of injuries to Kevin De Bruyne, Frank Anguissa, and Billy Gilmour.
Gomes, who has 10 caps for Brazil, joined Wolves in January 2023 for a fee reported to be €18.7 million and has a contract until 2030. In the current 2025/2026 Premier League season, he has made 20 appearances. Several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, have also been linked with the player. His market value on Transfermarkt is €40.00m. Reports in late 2025 suggested Wolves' asking price could be between £40m and £50m (approximately €47m-€59m).
