Mick Brown suggested that Coventry City could sign English right-back Kieran Trippier following confirmation of his departure from Newcastle United, which he joined in January 2022, at the end of the campaign. FLW’s Coventry fan pundit Chris Deez claimed it would be a very impressive signing if the club could achieve it.
Deez cited difficulties that could prevent a move, including the potential size of Kieran Trippier’s wage relative to what Coventry City could be able to offer, particularly as Trippier is likely to receive interest from elsewhere. Deez stated that he would be extremely happy if the club could sign Kieran Trippier. Deez also said that he thinks Trippier will have many offers and interest from more established clubs than Coventry City, and that wages will be the biggest obstacle.
Deez added that even with Coventry City, as he assumed, increasing their wage budget for the Premier League, he could not imagine it extending to £50,000 per week for a 35-year-old. He also noted that Trippier will be almost 36 soon after the season restarts. It is stated that Trippier's time with Newcastle United will end in the summer. The defender has 54 caps for England, has made 18 appearances, and provided one assist in the Premier League this season. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €2.50m. It is also reported that Monaco is interested in his services.
