Wesley Transfer from Flamengo to Chelsea
Wesley, a 21-year-old right-back from Flamengo and part of the Brazilian national team, is being scouted by Chelsea, Flamengo's opponent in the Club World Cup. Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Flamengo's president, stated that the club does not intend to sell Wesley despite Chelsea's interest. Flamengo's sporting director, José Boto, mentioned that Wesley is ready for Europe and set a price of at least 30 million euros for any interested parties, although no official offer has been made. Bap emphasized that Flamengo's intention is not to sell the player unless the deal is very favorable for the club.
The Chelsea director approached José Boto, Flamengo's executive, at Lincoln Field to inquire about the conditions under which Flamengo would consider transferring Wesley. This was described as an 'informal inquiry' with no concrete negotiations at this time. If Chelsea's interest continues, negotiations might begin in the coming weeks. Wesley is highly sought after in Europe, and his potential move to Chelsea has been discussed since the beginning of the season.
Chelsea have made initial contact with Wesley's representatives, expressing interest in securing his services. They are prepared to offer around €20 million, though Flamengo are holding out for a fee closer to €30-35 million. Negotiations are expected to intensify at the Club World Cup, where both clubs will participate, providing Chelsea an opportunity to observe Wesley.
Chelsea are one of the sides Flamengo have been drawn against in the Club World Cup group stage and they want Wesley to help them compete. Flamengo are aware they can make a big profit by selling Wesley after the tournament.
