Steegmann stated that it was at no point their intention to let Tom go in the winter, and he also noted that Moustier's contract had been prematurely extended last summer until 2027. He explained that despite a clear, long-term perspective with corresponding development opportunities, the Frenchman approached the club with the clear desire to take the next step in his career at that time. Steegmann added that because the Portuguese club did not want to realize the transfer at a later date and Tom could not be dissuaded, RWE only finally agreed to the transfer on the condition of an extremely lucrative offer for a third division club.
