Sokratis Dioudis Transfer from Gaziantep F.K. to Aris
Sokratis Dioudis terminated his contract with Turkish club Gaziantep FK about two weeks ago and has been training alone in Thessaloniki since then. On Monday (8/9), Aris officially announced his return, with the Greek goalkeeper signing a contract until 2027. This is his third spell at Aris. The announcement emphasizes his history with the club and his emotional statement about returning 'home'.
The agreement between Aris and Sokratis Dioudis is anticipated to be finalized within the day, involving a two-year contract. This decision comes after the termination of collaboration with Julian Cuesta and the performances of the other two goalkeepers. A year prior, Aris and Sokratis Dioudis had reached an agreement; however, Aris entered the competition for the player late, resulting in his signing with the Turkish club Gaziantep. Dioudis had asked Gaziantep to cancel their agreement, as he expressed his desire to return to Greece for Aris, but his request was declined. Consequently, he had to wait for a year to arrive at the current agreement.
Sokratis Dioudis is on the verge of returning to Aris, his former club, having reached a verbal agreement for a contract that will last at least two years. This transfer follows Aris's decision to end Julian Cuesta's contract, thereby creating both a vacancy and budgetary room for Dioudis. Initially, Dioudis had a verbal agreement with AEL, which he decided to cancel after Theodoros Karipidis, the president of Aris, communicated a strong interest in having him return. Unlike the previous year, when Aris was late to pursue Dioudis, favorable conditions this time facilitated a smooth agreement between the parties involved. Dioudis has reportedly harbored a long-standing desire to return to Aris, the club where he started his career. The transfer is anticipated to conclude soon, bringing his time at Gaziantep, where he participated in 21 games last season, to an end.
