Sergio Romero Transfer from Boca Juniors to Newell's Old Boys

Cristian Fabbiani, the coach of Newell's Old Boys, reached out to Sergio Romero, the goalkeeper of Boca Juniors, with an offer to move to Rosario. Romero was reported to have viewed the proposal favorably. However, the negotiation was interrupted by Keylor Navas' decision to remain with Newell's. Romero's contract with Boca Juniors is set to expire at the end of the year, and it is anticipated that he will not continue, as he is currently fourth in the goalkeeper lineup. The offer from Fabbiani had initially generated excitement in Romero, who hails from Bernardo de Irigoyen. However, negotiations between Newell's and PUMAS collapsed due to a disagreement over transfer fees, with Newell's rejecting a one million dollar offer from the Mexican club and insisting on three million instead. Romero, who is 38 years old, has not played since a goalless draw against Huracán on November 23, 2024. Despite these setbacks, if Navas decides to leave before his contract expires in 2026, Romero could once again become a viable option for Newell's.
