Barcelona and Real Madrid have both made formal offers to sign Sergio Martínez from Racing Santander on loan. The proposals from the two Spanish clubs are for the 18-year-old to join their B teams for the remainder of the season. A purchase option is included in the proposals, which would make the transfer permanent before the 2025–26 season. In November, Martínez signed a contract extension with Racing that runs until the summer of 2029. That agreement was made after he had drawn interest from other teams in Spain and Europe, including Girona, Hoffenheim, and Salzburg. Martínez's role in the first team has recently decreased following Racing's signing of reinforcements and the return of other midfield players from injury, which resulted in his return to the academy.
