Rodrigo Villagra leaving River Plate?

CSKA Moscow, from Russia, is negotiating with Rodrigo Villagra from River Plate and is reportedly in the lead to secure his signing, according to Argentine media.

Rodrigo Villagra has agreed to leave River through the intervention of Foster Gillett and is still waiting for a new club. River might use the same regulatory loophole as Vélez to incorporate a player after his departure.

Rodrigo Villagra's release is signed, but the ten million dollars net have not yet reached River. He was offered to Vélez, Estudiantes, and San Lorenzo, but none could take him. There is interest from CSKA Moscow, but nothing firm yet. Villagra is training separately, with his future uncertain.

Former CSKA Moscow player Dmitry Khomukha spoke about CSKA's plan to acquire River Plate midfielder Rodrigo Villagra. Khomukha indicated that CSKA faces strong competition in the midfield and suggested that Villagra could be signed because of a favorable price/quality ratio. He also pointed out that Pjanic is with CSKA until the end of the championship, after which the focus might shift to the Argentine player. Khomukha considers Villagra a future investment, as the young player Kislyak is developing but currently lacks the experience needed for the position.

CSKA Moscow is currently the favorite to sign Rodrigo Villagra, a defensive midfielder from River Plate, according to journalist Renzo Pantic. The club is competing with Estudiantes and Velez Sarsfield for the player's signature, but River Plate prefers to sell him to a club from a foreign league. Villagra has played 15 matches this season, providing one assist. His contract with River Plate runs until winter 2027, and his market value is estimated at €5.5 million according to Transfermarkt.

Rodrigo Villagra was bought by the Foster Gillett Group for a little over 11 million dollars. CSKA de Moscú is now seen as a leading alternative for his next club, although nothing has been finalized yet. The next week is expected to be crucial in determining his future. River has recently transferred Pablo Solari to Spartak, another Russian club.

Rodrigo Villagra has been sold to the economic group Foster Gillett for approximately 11.7 million dollars for the full transfer, which will leave River with around nine million net. It is not yet clear where he will play next, as Eduardo Dominguez stated he was not needed at Estudiantes, and Vélez has emerged as an alternative.

The economic group led by Foster Gillett, who has invested heavily in Estudiantes de La Plata, has reached a preliminary agreement with River Plate to acquire the services of Rodrigo Villagra. The exact transfer fee has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be similar to what River Plate paid to Talleres in 2024. Rodrigo Villagra was not called up for the match against Instituto at the Monumental stadium.

Rodrigo Villagra is part of the main team at River Plate, and his future is uncertain as the club is open to negotiations to transfer him away.
