Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda is looking for players during the winter transfer window, and due to the club's financial constraints, sporting director Antonio Cordón is concentrating on the South American market, an area he knows well. Journalist Matteo Moretto has identified Patrik Mercado, a 22-year-old midfielder from Independiente del Valle, as one player whose name is on a list of potential targets. Mercado, an Ecuador international with two caps, can play as a defensive pivot or in a more attacking role. He is not the only midfielder being considered, as Cordón also scouted San Lorenzo de Almagro players Ignacio Perruzzi and Facundo Gulli during a trip to Argentina over a month ago, while Sevilla is looking to transfer out Joan Jordán and Nemanja Gudelj.
