Brighton, Brentford, and Sunderland have also been monitoring the player, and interest in him from across Europe increased after he was named the Golden Ball winner at the Under-20 World Cup. Watford signed Maamma from Montpellier for under £1 million and do not plan a January sale, but may have difficulty refusing an offer that represents a large profit.
