Obed Vargas, a 20-year-old Mexican-American central midfielder, has obtained a Spanish passport, meaning he would not occupy a non-EU spot at Atletico Madrid or other Primera clubs that have inquired about him for a loan. The player joined Atlético from Seattle Sounders in February 2026 on a contract until 2030, and the club's sporting management and coaching staff have yet to decide what will happen with him. Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, and Celta de Vigo have recently been linked with a loan move for Vargas, who has been capped by Mexico at the U20 level. His transfer fee was reportedly around €3-6 million plus add-ons, and Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €8.00m.
