Niclas Fullkrug has joined Werder Bremen on loan for the 2026/27 season. The 33-year-old German, who signed a four-year contract with West Ham United in 2024, has made 13 competitive starts and scored three goals for the club since his £20million move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago. Fullkrug stated that it felt like coming home when seeing the faces again, adding that for years he had a strong feeling that he wanted to play for Werder again. Bremen Head Coach Daniel Thioune said that Niclas is a classic goalscorer, physically strong, very good in the air, technically good, and can hold on to balls. Thioune added that Fullkrug will enrich their game and is an absolute leader on and off the pitch. He also noted that the player will not need time to get used to the club as he still knows a number of players and staff from his previous time at Werder.

German international Niclas Füllkrug, 32, who has had a difficult period at West Ham United since his arrival in the summer of 2024, would prefer to make a move in the winter. A loan to the Bundesliga is considered a logical step for the striker, but to maintain his chances of participating in the World Cup, he must anticipate a reduction in salary. A return to Werder Bremen, the club where he was trained and became the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2023, is considered a potential option. Werder is currently not satisfied with their loan player Victor Boniface in the central attacking position, who appears unfit, suggesting Füllkrug would likely be an immediate starter. The centre-forward has made 6 appearances in the Premier League this season and has earned 24 caps for Germany, scoring 14 goals. His contract with the English club runs until 2028, and his current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €10.00m.
