Nacho Fernández leaving River Plate?
According to the local press, the coach has informed key players, including Nacho Fernández, aged 39, that they will not be included in the plans for 2026.
An investigation by ESPN reported that coach Marcelo Gallardo has created a release list for the next year containing at least 11 names. Nacho Fernández is among those chosen to leave the Monumental de Núñez stadium.
According to TYC, Marcelo Gallardo will inform several players that they will not continue at the club from the end of the year. The names are Ignacio Fernández, 35, Milton, 37, Gonzalo Martínez, 32, Miguel Ángel Borja, 32, and Enzo Pérez, 39. These are footballers whose contracts expire on December 31, and the option for renewal was never considered. Gallardo will confirm to them that they are not part of the plans for the future.
TYC reports that Major League Soccer in the United States could attract Nacho Fernández, who would view an experience abroad favorably.
Nacho Fernández, who previously played for Atlético-MG, is listed for transfer by River Plate.
Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata showed interest in repatriating Nacho Fernández, but River Plate has firmly refused to let him go. Nacho is considered a key player for River's upcoming competitions, including the Copa Libertadores, Argentina Liga Profesional, and the Club World Cup. Fernández has a contract with River until December 2025.
Nacho Fernández received offers from Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. There are no further details on whether negotiations are underway.
