According to De Telegraaf, FC Twente receives a small transfer fee from the transfer of Mees Hilgers to SC Heerenveen. The defender's contract had expired this summer but was automatically extended due to an administrative error. De Telegraaf reports the estimated transfer fee for the homegrown defender is several hundred thousand euros.

Voetbalprimeur.nl reports that the transfer of Mees Hilgers to SC Heerenveen is official, with the player having been presented and the move announced via the club's official channels. The 25-year-old defender leaves FC Twente after 132 matches. SC Heerenveen's interest became public on Sunday evening and the transfer is now officially confirmed. Hilgers has signed a two-year contract in Friesland until mid-2028, with an option to extend by one season until mid-2029.

De Telegraaf reports that Mees Hilgers will make a permanent transfer within the Eredivisie from FC Twente to SC Heerenveen, which concludes a long-running situation regarding the 25-year-old central defender's future. Hilgers did not attend the first training days of the season at FC Twente. If the Indonesian international, who also holds Dutch citizenship and has 4 caps for his country, passes his medical examination, he can sign a three-year contract in Friesland until mid-2029. His contract at FC Twente, which was originally set to run until mid-2026, had been automatically extended. Previously, Hilgers was close to a move to Stade Brest, but the transfer did not happen due to a lack of time, and he subsequently suffered a cruciate ligament injury which required a long recovery period. His current market value is €3.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
