On Saturday, Benfica officially announced the permanent transfer of Mauro Furtado, an 18-year-old Portuguese central defender, to the Spanish club Girona, where he will play in LaLiga. Furtado, who came through the Seixal academy, ends a multi-year association with the Lisbon club. The deal provides Benfica with a €1 million fee for 50 percent of the player's rights. The Portuguese club has also retained guarantees on future capital gains. Benfica issued an official note on Saturday morning, in which the club confirmed the complete agreement, thanked the player for his commitment and professionalism, and wished him the best for the future.
