Bologna is considering 22-year-old Italian defensive midfielder Matteo Prati of Cagliari as an alternative to Jacopo Fazzini. Corriere dello Sport reports that dialogues are ongoing between Cagliari's director of football, Guido Angelozzi, and Bologna's technical director, Giovanni Sartori, and sporting director, Marco Di Vaio. The main issue is the transfer formula. Bologna wants a loan with an option to buy, while Cagliari is asking for an obligation to buy. It is reportedly unlikely the club will allow its Italian players to leave without a mandatory purchase clause. Genoa and Torino have also been linked with Prati. The midfielder has 15 caps and 1 goal for the Italy U21 team. He joined Cagliari from SPAL in August 2023 for a reported fee of €5 million plus bonuses. Reports in June 2024 indicated that Cagliari had set an asking price of €15 million. His current Transfermarkt market value is €6.00m.
