At 21 years old, goalkeeper Mathieu Patouillet has completed a move from Olympique Lyonnais to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for a €342,000 fee, a sum below his Transfermarkt market value of €800,000. The deal also grants Lyon a 20% share of any future profit on the player. According to a club statement, the Frenchman's move, which follows two seasons on loan at Sochaux, was motivated by a need for increased playing time for his development. His first-team pathway at Lyon was obstructed by new arrivals Dominik Greif and Rémy Descamps. Patouillet is expected to serve as the second-choice goalkeeper at Al-Hilal, deputizing for Moroccan international Yassine Bounou, who will be absent for the AFCON in the winter.
