Mario Gila's agent, Alejandro Camano, acknowledged that Napoli is very significant for Argentinians because of Diego Armando Maradona's history there, but emphasized that the focus must be on professional football for the 25-year-old Spanish centre-back. He stated that Gila's concentration must remain on Lazio for the rest of the season, especially during an important period where the team can win the Coppa Italia. Camano confirmed Gila is a Lazio player, in his fourth year of a five-year contract, and added that they have never discussed a renewal. The agent said he has not spoken to any Serie A team about Gila's future and stated that any interested club must first speak with Lazio, who hold the player's selling rights, before contacting his agency. Camano also mentioned having a past relationship with Napoli's president, De Laurentiis, noting that his other clients Hakimi and Borja Mayoral were previously close to joining the club. Gila has made 28 appearances in Serie A this season. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €30.00m. Several other clubs have been linked with the player, including Milan, Inter, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. Reports in early 2026 indicated Lazio's asking price was between €25 million and €30 million. Aston Villa was reportedly prepared to offer around €30 million, and an offer of €20 million from Inter was reportedly rejected in late 2025.
