FC Midtjylland was interested in 19-year-old Polish Zagłębie Lubin offensive midfielder Marcel Regula this summer but faced competition from Borussia Dortmund. The German club's pursuit ended on transfer deadline day when they leased another player from Arsenal. Regula's former teammate, Rafal Gilkiewicz, stated that the deal with Dortmund did not proceed because the personal contract offered to the player was unacceptably low, despite the club being prepared to pay a multi-million euro transfer fee. This led Regula to believe he would not be a key part of the team, and he consequently rejected the move. Gilkiewicz added that the player decided to stay at Zagłębie to complete the season and might extend his contract to increase his club's future earnings from his sale. Regula's Transfermarkt value is seven million euros, a level at which FC Midtjylland can compete, although a higher fee would likely be necessary to buy him out of his contract which runs until 2028. The midfielder, who joined Zagłębie in July 2024 and has one cap for Poland, has also attracted interest from clubs such as Benfica, Burnley, and FC Köln. In September 2026, Zagłębie Lubin's asking price was reportedly between €15 million and €17 million, while in August 2026, FC Köln was reportedly prepared to pay between €7 million and €8 million for the player.
