Louis Munteanu Transfer from CFR Cluj to Olympique Lyonnais
Romania international Louis Munteanu is reported to have several interested clubs in Europe, including Lyon and Nantes from Ligue 1, and Valencia from La Liga. Cluj president Iuliu Mureșan has revealed that the club intends to sell their forward to improve their financial situation. Mureșan stated that the club is in advanced discussions to sell two more players, which will solve the financial problems, and added that Louis Munteanu is one of them.
Sport.ro reports that several foreign teams, including Olympique Lyon, are interested in Louis Munteanu, and that he is very close to securing a transfer. The report also states that the only potential problem could be the sum requested by Nelu Varga, as the majority shareholder of CFR Cluj is unwilling to sell his striker for less than ten million euros.
According to Le 10 Sport, Olympique Lyon's first option is to sign Endrick from Real Madrid. If the player from the Spanish capital arrives at Lyon, then Louis Munteanu's transfer will not go ahead. The Lyon club is expected to receive funds and could invest them in Louis Munteanu in January, meaning the striker could reach Ligue 1 in a few weeks. The same publication noted that given the probable arrival of Endrick on loan, the French club might ultimately abandon the transfer of Louis Munteanu.
Sport.ro reports that Olympique Lyon is closely monitoring a promising striker and maintains a strong interest in them. The same source states that scouts from the French club were present in the stands for the CFR – Rapid match, during which Munteanu provided two assists. Sport.ro also reports that CFR is now willing to sell the player for approximately 10 million euros, a decrease from the asking price of around 20 million euros in the summer.
Several Romanian media report that Louis Munteanu is being tracked by Olympique Lyonnais. In early September, Liubliana Nedelcu, an agent close to Cluj, discussed the transfer with Lyon's management, but the transfer was not completed due to time constraints. Liubliana Nedelcu stated that Lyon remains interested and that the transfer is under consideration for this winter. The transfer fee is reported to be approximately 11 million euros plus commissions, with a current asking price around 10 million euros. According to Antena Sport and Pro Sport, the transfer could happen this winter. Lyon had previously approached Cluj for Munteanu last summer.
According to as.ro, Olympique Lyon is the latest major team constantly monitoring 23-year-old Romanian international centre-forward Louis Munteanu, and the French club reportedly had representatives at the CFR vs. Rapid 3-0 derby where he made two decisive passes. Lyon's interest is not new. The club, which is currently 7th in the Europa League phase, was interested in Munteanu since the summer and has now renewed its interest. It is reported that CFR Cluj is now willing to sell the player for 10 million euros, a significant decrease from the summer when the club's owner, Ioan Varga, was asking for double that figure. At that time, Rennes had been prepared to offer 12 million euros, but negotiations did not succeed as CFR's management maintained a high price. Munteanu joined CFR Cluj in July 2024 and has a contract until June 2028. His current market value is €5.00m, according to Transfermarkt. In the current 2025/2026 domestic league season, he has scored 1 goal and provided 5 assists in 11 appearances, and has 4 caps and 2 goals for Romania.
