CFR Cluj owner Ioan Varga stated that the club was on the verge of selling Romanian striker Louis Munteanu to Ajax on the final day of the transfer window. Speaking to GSP.ro, Varga explained that an agreement was reached around 6 pm, but there was not enough time to complete the deal. He anticipates that discussions with the Eredivisie side will be reactivated during the winter transfer window. Varga also revealed that Ajax and Valencia are currently the only teams willing to meet their asking price of €15-17 million, which could rise to €20 million (£17.5 million) with bonuses and percentages. The 23-year-old forward, who scored 25 goals last season, has attracted other interest; sources in Romania had previously reported that Celtic saw a £6.9 million bid rejected, and Rennes were also linked with a move. Munteanu's contract with the Romanian club runs until June 2028, and his market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €5 million.
