According to BILD information, Heidenheim does not have a purchase option for the defender. The clubs made the transfer official on Thursday afternoon. Stergiou said about the move that he is very happy about the loan within the Bundesliga and that it is a great opportunity for him to gain regular match experience again and to help FCH achieve their goal of staying in the league. Heidenheim's CEO Holger Sanwald commented that with Leonidas Stergiou, they are acquiring a player for their defense who is very familiar with the Bundesliga and, despite still being young, already has considerable experience. Sanwald added that they are convinced Leo can immediately help them in the current challenging situation with his footballing quality and his attitude on the pitch.
