Journalist Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon page that Preston North End are set to sign 33-year-old English goalkeeper Lee Nicholls from Huddersfield Town, and that the move is expected to proceed even though Nicholls has two years remaining on his contract with the League One side, which runs until June 2028. Nixon has suggested that the player is prepared to move to Deepdale. Huddersfield Town are reportedly preparing for his departure as they expect to bring in Matty Young on loan from Sunderland, making Nicholls no longer needed.
