Leandro Fernández, a 34-year-old Argentinian ambidextrous forward, will not continue his career at Universidad de Chile and is set to join Argentinos Juniors, managed by Nicolás Diez. The departure from the Chilean club occurred after the Rosario-born coach, Francisco Meneghini, informed him that he would not be considered, despite Fernández having renewed his contract in May 2024 to extend it until the end of 2026. The forward revealed that the coach communicated this decision to him directly in a brief, face-to-face conversation. Following his departure from Universidad de Chile, Fernández signed a 12-month contract with Argentinos Juniors. The club is scheduled to play against Barcelona of Ecuador in the preliminary phase of the 2026 Copa Libertadores. His current market value is €450k, according to Transfermarkt.
