BILD reported that an attempt by the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg to sign Ko Itakura from Ajax last winter was unsuccessful due to financial reasons.

VfL Wolfsburg was not able to reach an agreement with Ajax for Ko Itakura; Kicker reports that a transfer for the Ajax defender was not possible for Wolfsburg.

Ajax has stated that they do not want to sell 29-year-old Japanese defender Ko Itakura amid interest from VfL Wolfsburg.
