José Juan Macías: Pumas UNAM Contract Extension
Rumours indicate that the club's board is considering not renewing José Juan Macías' contract due to differences with the player regarding the management of his injury and the cost of rehabilitation. A statement from Macías, in which he said he would soon communicate real news about his future, is cited as a possible indication that decisions about his career may be made soon, once he recovers from surgery.
Pumas have decided against renewing José Juan Macías' contract. The reasons, according to ESPN, are that Macías does not wish to have surgery in Mexico City or Guadalajara and instead wants the club to cover his surgery and recovery in the United States, which is beyond Pumas' budget. The forward's plan was to have surgery in the United States, complete his recovery there, and report to Pumas by the summer of 2026, but the capital team did not approve it. Following the refusal to authorize these plans, the management reportedly decided not to renew the contract for the forward, who is a youth product of Chivas Rayadas del Guadalajara, even though they had previously committed to the renewal.
Pumas will renew the contract of the 26-year-old Mexican forward, José Juan Macías, based on an agreement made upon his arrival that it would be extended if he met certain objectives. According to RÉCORD, Pumas will renew his contract for one more year and will retain the player. His contract with the club was set to end this semester, and there was an idea to extend it before his injury. Upon his arrival for this Apertura 2025, the Mexican forward and the club's management agreed on a short-term contract, which was only for this tournament. If sporting objectives were met, this deal could be extended for at least one more year. José Juan will renew for 12 more months with Club Universidad Nacional. The forward has 5 caps and 4 goals for Mexico and has 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 Liga MX Apertura appearances this season. His current market value is €1.20m, according to Transfermarkt.
